Er såpenøtter øklogisk og etisk: Dette sier Tierra Verde om produksjonen av såpenøtter:
Currently, we are not aware of any more abundant and ecological source of natural plant-based saponin than soap nut skin. The soap nuts grow on wild soapnut trees. They are not produced on huge plantations which place a burden on the local environmental system.
The soap nuts are harvested by local women, giving them not only possibilities to earn money, but also to gain independence. We are in regular touch with our suppliers. Our cooperation helps to the sustainable development of the local region. Our soap nuts are shipped to Europe by boats, not airplanes. We re-use the boxes they are packed in.
Our SOAP NUTS grow at the foothills of Himalaya in northern India, where they have been traditionally used for washing and hygiene due to their naturally high saponin content. Soapnuts are a very mild detergent, thus suitable for people suffering from allergies, eczemas and small children. For sensitive skin, however, we recommend avoiding soap containing lavender, as it might cause skin irritation for some people.
Why are soapnut products ecological and ethical at the same time? The soapnuts grow on wild soapnut trees. Therefore they are not produced on huge plantations, placing burden on the local environmental system. The soapnuts are harvested by local women, giving them not only possibilities to earn money, but also to gain independence. We are in regular touch with our suppliers.
Some people might ask, how can be a product, the supply route of which covers half the world, be considered “eco-friendly”? Our soapnuts are shipped by boats, not airplanes. We re-use the boxes they are packed in and as we mentioned earlier, our purchases of soapnuts help to develop the local region.
